Fossil 2 points

A unique thing about this park is the way fossils have been preserved. This entire area used to be underwater, and because it’s now exposed, you can easily spot a fossil while out and about on a hike.

Big Bend, which is located near the Rio Grande and the Mexico border, is home to the Chisos Mountains, also known as the Chisos. This entire mountain range is located within this national park, including Emory Peak that sits at 7,825 feet tall. This park has an important job when it comes to conservation. More than 1,200 plants, 450 birds, 50 reptiles, and 75 mammals call this area home. There are incredible resources within the parks to help support all these nature treasures. It’s also a beautiful, remote area to visit if you don’t like a lot of traffic or crowds. Additionally, it’s one of the best places in the country for stargazing. With dark night skies, you can see stars for miles and miles.
